“Psychotherapy refers to a variety of techniques and methods used to help children and adolescents who are experiencing difficulties with their emotions or behavior. Although there are different types of psychotherapy, each relies on communications as the basic tool for bringing about change in a person’s feelings and behaviors. Psychotherapy may involve an individual child, a group of children, a family, or multiple families. In children and adolescents, playing, drawing, building, and pretending, as well as talking, are important ways of sharing feelings and resolving problems” (American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry).

Parental Guidance
Parents have a primary role in cultivating a loving and healthy environment for their children that fosters appropriate behaviors and attitudes. SKILD’s experienced and knowledgeable staff offer parents a supportive presence in the creation of such a nurturing and structured environment, in addition to coaching parents on methods and techniques that encourage a secure attachment and reduce problematic behaviors in their children. Parental guidance is an adjunct treatment that involves educating and coaching parents to help their children overcome behavioral challenges, with the ultimate goal of raising kind, successful children who make good choices for themselves.

Family Counseling

  • Enables family members to explore and express difficult issues, thoughts, and emotions in a safe environment
  • Helps family members understand each other’s experiences, needs, and views
  • Helps family members build on each other’s strengths to make effective changes in their relationships and lives
  • Helps rebuild broken communication patterns
  • Helps identify and change unhealthy family dynamics
