The rights of the child, his/her well-being, and protection should be safeguarded in all circumstances. As part of a regional child rights program, SKILD and its sister LSESD ministries, BCYM, MERATH, DMAH, and BBS, underwent a training of trainers on child rights and child rights based approach whereby the child is a stakeholder and participant in activities, not only a beneficiary.
The training was given by Kezia M’Clelland, Children in Emergencies Specialist for 21 representatives of different ministries.
The training covered the different rights of the child, the difference between needs and rights and developed our understanding to the child rights based approach and using it to develop projects. It also highlighted the key principles of child rights which are non-discrimination; life, survival and development; best interest of the child, and participation and child friendly communication.
