The National Day for Students with Learning Difficulties that Lebanon celebrated for the first time this year was not a goal in itself, but an important milestone towards the fulfillment of a major goal: every child’s right to education, particularly children with learning difficulties. Adopting the National Day is an acknowledgement of this right.
A dinner was hosted by the British Council, the Center for Educational Research and Development, and the SKILD center on the 15th of April 2013 in the “Al Bustan Hotel” and the Minister of Education professor Hassan Diab was present to encourage and support the first National Day dinner event.
During the dinner, there was a “Signing of Memorandum of Agreement” by Minister Dr. Hassan Diab – Minister of Education and Higher Education in Lebanon, Dr. Nabil Costa – Executive Director for LSESD, Ms. Barbara Hewitt – Director of British Council Lebanon, and Dr. Layla Fayad – President of the Ministry’s Center for Educational Research & Development.
The purpose of this Memorandum was to ensure the continuance of awareness campaigns, training seminars and workshops for teachers. Sure enough, this Memorandum of Understanding is still effective to this day.
