Partnership

The contribution of SKILD Center to supporting and empowering children with special needs and learning difficulties extends far beyond diagnosis, assessment and direct treatment sessions (such as speech therapy or psychomotor therapy) provided in its specialized center.

In 2921, SKILD Center, in partnership with Notre Dame University (NDU) and in collaboration with Lipscomb University, announced the launch of a joint initiative. This initiative aimed to support and empower students with learning difficulties on the university campus, and later expanded to developing skills for students who are unable to pursue a traditional academic path but can be equipped with skills to secure employment opportunities. This initiative became known as the IDEAL Program.
This two-year university program is specifically designed for students with learning and/or behavioral challenges between the ages of 17 and 26 who cannot follow a standard college curriculum. It is suitable for young people with special needs who have a documented educational psychological report, complete with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Furthermore, the student must demonstrate a genuine desire to attend the program and possess the ability to participate in courses, classes, and assignments in the English language.

The IDEAL program enhances learners’ skills, enabling them to pursue and succeed in careers and become competitive in the labor market. The program is unique in opening the path for young people with learning and/or behavioral challenges to acquire fundamental and professional life skills over two years, ultimately leading to a certificate. Instruction is provided under the supervision of experts in specialized education, therapists affiliated with SKILD Center, and other professionals specialized in fields like sports and arts on campus. Throughout the day, volunteer university students accompany their IDEAL peers, acting as mentors and assisting them with navigating the campus.
